Rummel Construction looks to Ritchie Bros. for equipment selling solutions in Arizona area

May 21, 2025

Chase Hamilton has been handling asset management for Rummel Construction for 5 years and almost every quarter he looks to Ritchie Bros. for simple, easy-to-use disposition solutions. Hamilton knows he has a lot of options when it comes to getting his construction company’s equipment into the market, but he says he keeps turning to Ritchie Bros. for the seamless selling experience.

“I mean, it’s easy. That’s the thing,” says Hamilton. “I send my list to my Territory Manager, Bill, and say, ‘Hey, this is what I got.’ If I get them cleaned up in time, he’ll come out and pop some photos, get them into the brochure, haul them down to the yard … The whole process is very simple.”

Selling the ‘big stuff’

Hamilton started as a mechanic at Rummel, then Superintendent before working his way up to Equipment Director. Rummel primarily deals with heavy civil contracting in Arizona, as well as a little bit of mining in the southern part of the state. The key pieces in Rummel’s fleet are scrapers – 657s, 637s, 627s, plus D10s and D9s – all the big stuff.

As mentioned, Hamilton is a frequent seller and has used multiple disposition solutions available from Ritchie Bros. He’s sold through IronPlanet, Marketplace-E, and more recently, Timed Auction from the Ritchie Bros. Phoenix yard. He says the efficiency of Timed Auction is helping him get more done in his day.

“I never got to see the live auction experience, which is too bad,” says Hamilton, with a laugh. “But Timed Auction really speeds the process up. All my pieces timed out and sold by noon on auction day. It wasn’t an all-day ordeal. I was able to get my sheet done, send it off to executive team, and say ‘Hey, this is how we did that day.’”

It comes down to results

But perhaps most importantly, it comes down to results. Hamilton says despite some inconsistency in late 2024, he’s been happy with recent price results from Timed Auctions this year.

“I was very happy with the last auction prices because we did more than I expected,” says Hamilton. “The end of last year, I wasn’t impressed with. But I think people probably didn’t know what the direction the country was going in at the time.”

Results and selling process aside, one of the main reasons Hamilton keeps coming back to Ritchie Bros. is the trusted relationship he has with his local Territory Manager. “Bill is a very good dude. He’s very easy to get along with. Anything I need he’s there to answer his phone. And he knows what kind of fleet we have; he’s known Rummel forever. If something comes up in an auction, on the other side of the country, he’ll say, ‘Hey, I know you guys rent these, you looking? This is what’s coming up in the auction,’ so that relationship is a very good one to have.”
