Grande Prairie smashes site record with $93.5M auction
Four days. One site. A result that’s going to be talked about for a while.
Ritchie Bros.’ April 13–16 auction in Grande Prairie, AB generated more than CA$93.5 million in gross transaction value (GTV), marking a new site record that more than doubled year over year.
The event drew nearly 10,000 registered bidders, with more than 1,100 buyers actively competing across construction, transportation, forestry, and energy sectors. More than 2,600 lots sold in total — nearly double the count from the 2024 auction — a reflection of both the increased volume of quality supply and the depth of buyer demand that showed up to meet it.
What drove the record in Grande Prairie
The anchor of the event was a retirement dispersal for Mur-Cal Services Ltd., a company with a well-maintained, late-model fleet built around logging, mulching, and transportation. When that kind of quality become available — equipment that’s ready to work, maintained by people who take pride in it — bidders respond. And they did, with sustained competition that ran deep into the equipment list.
That core was supported by additional consignments from Macro Industries and a complete dispersal for T-Rucking Oilfield Services Ltd., which added diversity and depth to the lineup.
“Grande Prairie delivered a strong result, based on the early dispersal and re-alignment consignments, which helped build a world-class event,” said Jordan Clarke, Senior Vice President, Canada Sales at Ritchie Bros.
“We saw consistent competition across sectors, especially on high-quality, late-model equipment. When that level of supply is matched with active buyer demand, it drives competitive outcomes.”
Top sales from the Grande Prairie auction
A 2019 Cat D9T crawler dozer led all transactions, selling for CA$1.525 million — a result that speaks to both the quality of the iron and the appetite of buyers competing for it. A 2011 Foremost Commander 8×8 articulating bed truck followed at CA$660,000, and multiple 2022 John Deere 470G LC VG tracked excavators moved at CA$305,000 each.

What it means for the market
The results in Grande Prairie fit squarely within a broader pattern that’s been consistent across recent Ritchie Bros. events: strong buyer participation, sustained demand for quality assets, and competitive outcomes when the right equipment comes to market.
That momentum carries directly into the next major event on the calendar. The May 11–15 Edmonton auction is one of the company’s largest and most anticipated annual events.
If you’re considering selling equipment, results like these tell you something important: the buyers are there, they’re active, and they’re competing.
